Library of Infinite Meanings

Twenty-eight chapters of the Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra — the Sublime Dharma of the White Lotus.

The Lotus Sutra consists of twenty-eight chapters, traditionally divided into two halves. The first fourteen chapters, known as the “Trace Teaching” (Shakumon), present the historical Buddha’s teachings through parables, prophecies, and philosophical exposition. The latter fourteen chapters, the “Essential Teaching” (Honmon), reveal the eternal nature of the Buddha and the boundless scope of his compassion.
